A terribly and unjustly neglected piece not often heard in recital programmes, this is grand piano music in the 19th century idiom at it’s very best...
and Raymond Lewenthal, a pianist whose name and reputation as one of the 20th century’s few supervirtuosi, plays it with an unencumbered abandon coupled with such musical good taste to make it seem, in this writer’s opinion, as if this is one of “the” representative pieces of 19th century piano music.
